I chose this monolgue due to it reminding me of my mother, as well as when I am stressed the amount of repetition and anger I use, I felt I would be able to ease into this character representing beverly.
The role I play is varied, I am a mother yet the emotions change throughout the Monologue, first I am angry and stressed and the audience will be able to see this by the first words in the monologue which are ' I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE.' this shows alot of emotions, a variety can be played from just saying these 5 words, angry, upset, stressed. The emotion I have chosen is Angry due to me walking in the room, shouting this line, with expressions on my face and body movement, I will be raising my both hands in the air that will then develop onto my head like this picture;
yet I will be standing so that the audience will be able to clearly help me as well as it will be easier to go into the next section.
I then go into being stressed, reading a list of chores I need to do for myself and family before I take my child to school, the speed will change I will say this section fast, acting stressed with body movement with the hands to represent I am counting my duties as they are on going and not stopping.
Alternatively once I have had my nag and stopped being stressed I then represent ' Me time' were I go into a Lady, being sexy and naughty due to the words ' give him a little something worth coming back too' this shows a naughty side were I can really play with and have fun while saying this a variety of movement happens in this as well as facial expressions.
And lastely I go into a stereo typical middle age women, who hates her weight, what she looks like, thinks she is fat, but the food is the comfort eater, were she will eat the whole jar of peanut butter to drown the sorrows, I like this bit as their is alot of acting for this and I have chosen to make this funny and appealing due to knowing a lot of females do this when they are home alone.
I chose this after reading a few and felt this was the one I was going to perform , as I am not a serious person and knew this monologue could be acted out very emotional or get the audience laughing, therefore I chose to take the risk of making the audience laugh and hope it succeeds.
I will be wearing typical casual day clothes for a motherly role, yet will interpret wearing a silk nighy, when the section of getting ready. kissing dave goodbye, ' GIVING HIM A LITTLE SOMETHING WORTH COMING BACK TOO' so I need to act very kinky and slutty for this party.
After practiceing sue gave me feedback which was ;
- Act out all the pieces as a mother would
- pretend that I have a child with me
- bigger expressions, body movement
- emphasise eating the peanut butter
- clear structure of each emotion being interpreted
- enjoy the monologue
Throughout the piece I needed to make choices on how to say the words, therefore throughout the piece I will be sounding sad with a low voice but then will quickly automatically change to high vocal. Therefore I need to remember all of my lines so I can interpret each device without physically thinking about it.
I really enjoyed learning this Monologue and hope that I can physically act all of this out on my assessment day with no stutters and get into my character with the same level at the start to the end.
